Merle Oberon, a biracial woman that passed for white and who found out that her sister, who gave birth to her at 13, was really her mother. She bleached her skin and detached herself from family to hide her heritage. She was not alone in passing, many did. As such, she now is the first Asian nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for “Dark Angel”.
