Born as Julia Jean Turner on February 8, 1921 and famous as Lana Turner, an American actress who made a name for herself in film. In her long career, and she achieved success as a pin-up model and a dramatic actress and also for her extremely publicized private life. She was among the highest paid women in the United States in the mid 1940s and one of the biggest stars working for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Her films earned the studio over $50 million during her 18 year contract with them. She was discovered in 1936 while still in high school. She was purchasing a soda at the Top Hat Mall Shop in Hollywood at the time. At the ge of 16, she was given a personal contract by Warner Bros. film director Mervin LeRoy. She debuted in They Won’t Forget in 1937. During the early 1940s, she firmly established herself as a top actress and appeared in films like Johnny Eager (1941), Ziegfeld Girl (1941), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941) and Somewhere I’ll Find You (1942). She earned the reputation of a serious actress in the film The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946). Her other popular roles during the 1950s include The Bad and the Beautiful (1952), and Peyton Place (1957), the latter got her an Academy Award for Best Actress nomination.
