Playwright Joe Orton, author of hit 1960s plays Loot, Entertaining Mr Sloane and What the Butler Saw, was murdered by his partner, Kenneth Halliwell just days after homosexuality was partially decriminalised.
The papers described Halliwell as ‘his best friend’.
