"Mikan Rule"


At 6’10’’ George Mikan was the first really dominant big man in professional basketball and the game’s first true star. He started wearing glasses when he was 12 with many telling him “that anyone who wore glasses could never be a great athlete”.



George Mikan was so dominant that he caused several rule changes in the NBA, among them, the introduction of the goaltending rule, the widening of the foul lane — known as the "Mikan Rule" — and the creation of the shot clock.

Brian Duffy 1965




Together with David Bailey and Terence Donovan, Duffy was one of the “Black Trinity”, as Norman Parkinson called them, who revolutionized fashion photography. But Duffy’s career was not limited to the fashion image: he shot ads, he did reportage and he created outstanding portraits like the one that became the cover of David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane, now part of costume, as well as music, history.
