These heroes in a half shell have had an unprecedented ever changing existence, first created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in the 80's as a satirical comic parodying the dark and gritty atmosphere of comics as the time. However when the comic became a runaway hit it was rushed into production as a more child friendly animated series in the late 80's as one of the penultimate programs of the decade. As their fame increased the Turtles became a household starring in three live action films, numerous video games and existing as one of the most widespread toy lines.
As times changed and peoples interests in such things as extreme sports and Surge waned, the Turtles fell from the spotlight for a time, continuing only in syndication and an ongoing comic series until the mid 2000's when they were relaunched as a CGI film and two animated television programs. The success of the license has once more reclaimed the public eye with their newest live action film set to premiere in the near future. As a series loved by the young and the nostalgic, its sure to continue capturing our attention for years to come with their combination of humor and tubular ninja action.
